Ranger® R2

The FLIR Ranger® R2 is a compact, mid-range Ka-band radar that offers reliable, high-resolution detection and tracking of ground-based threats across a 6.16 km² surveillance area. Designed to operate 24/7 in all weather and light conditions, the R2 detects moving personnel—including crawling or running targets—as well as vehicles and small watercraft up to 1.4 km away.

With a scan rate of 60 rpm and the ability to track up to 128 targets simultaneously, the Ranger R2 delivers continuous perimeter awareness with exceptionally low false alarm rates (less than one per day). Its narrow 1° beam and 0.3-meter range resolution allow for precise target location, while integrated XML telemetry provides rich data including range, bearing, heading, and signal confidence.

Built to military durability standards and NEMA 4 environmental resistance, the R2 is designed for fixed and mobile perimeter defense, airport and seaport protection, border security, and force protection. With low 30 W power draw, it’s easily integrated with EO/IR cameras and command systems for cueing and automated threat assessment.

With only 30 watts of power consumption, the R2 delivers enterprise-grade radar performance in a compact, energy-efficient package. It delivers detailed tracking and outputs target telemetry via Ethernet or wireless link.

Exceptional Reliability in Harsh Conditions

Tested to MIL-STD-810F and sealed to NEMA 4 standards, the R2 is built for hot, wet, windy, and dusty conditions. It withstands wind up to 120 km/h, operates in extreme temperatures, and maintains performance at altitudes up to 15,000 ft.

Simple Integration for Scalable Security

The radar uses XML over Ethernet or wireless and supports polygon masking zones for customized detection coverage. It’s ideal as a standalone sensor or integrated into a layered surveillance system with FLIR cameras or third-party VMS.
