Product Information

Ranger® R3

The FLIR Ranger® R3 is a compact, high-resolution Ka-band perimeter surveillance radar built to detect personnel, vehicles, and even crawling intruders in virtually any weather or lighting condition. With a full 360° scan every second and a coverage area of 24 km², the R3 provides fast, accurate, and continuous monitoring of expansive perimeters.

Optimized for short- to mid-range defense, the Ranger R3 detects personnel up to 1.9 km away, vehicles up to 2.5 km, and low-profile crawling threats at 500 m. Its beam resolution of 0.3 m (range) by 1° (azimuth) ensures sharp detection and accurate classification of small or slow-moving targets. A low false alarm rate and real-time tracking of up to 128 threats make the R3 a reliable solution for border security, industrial site protection, and base surveillance.

Designed for flexibility, it integrates easily with PTZ cameras, FLIR C2 systems, or third-party networks. Operators can assign no-transmit sectors for sensitive areas and receive telemetry like range, heading, and velocity via Ethernet/XML protocols. Weighing just 29 lbs and sealed to IP66 standards, the R3 is field-ready for fixed or mobile deployment in even the harshest climates.

High-Resolution Detection for Challenging Perimeters

The Ranger R3 delivers 360° situational awareness every second, detecting low-profile and moving threats with high accuracy. With resolution down to 0.3 meters in range and a 1° azimuth beamwidth, the system excels in tight perimeter security zones.

Reliable 24/7 Coverage in Any Environment

Built to IP66 standards and rated for -30°C to +65°C operation, the R3 performs reliably through rain, heat, humidity, and dust. Its Ka-band sensor maintains performance in environments that degrade other radar systems.

FLIR Ranger R3 components

Low False Alarm Rate and Intelligent Threat Tracking

With the ability to track up to 128 targets simultaneously and a false alarm rate of less than one per 24 hours, the R3 provides operators with confident situational awareness without alert fatigue.

Simple Integration and Scalable Protection

The radar’s compact form, XML compatibility, and 2 no-transmit sector options make it easy to integrate into FLIR or third-party networks. Pair it with DefendIR or Ranger EO/IR systems for full surveillance coverage of borders, ports, or infrastructure.
