Product Information

Ranger® R3D

The FLIR Ranger® R3D is a Ka-band dual-mode perimeter surveillance radar that combines Doppler and FMCW technologies to deliver fast, accurate detection of slow-moving and fast threats across a 133 km² coverage area. Compact, lightweight, and rugged, it is designed for 24/7 all-weather monitoring in mobile or fixed-site applications such as border control, airport security, critical infrastructure protection, and force protection.

Operating in Fast Scan mode for high-resolution, near-range awareness or Doppler mode for extended reach and terrain penetration, the R3D provides operators with flexible surveillance tailored to the environment. It tracks up to 128 moving targets simultaneously—including personnel moving slower than 0.1 m/s—and outputs full target telemetry for integration into C2 and video management systems.

At just 29 lbs and drawing 40 watts, the R3D is easily deployed on towers, poles, or mobile assets. Its extremely low false alarm rate and versatile angular detection zoning make it a reliable cueing device or primary detection solution for wide-area surveillance networks. With XML integration and FLIR ecosystem compatibility, the R3D forms a critical sensor in multi-radar, multi-imager defense configurations.

FLIR Ranger R3D

Dual-Mode Ka-Band Radar with FMCW + Doppler

The Ranger R3D offers two operating modes in one compact system—Fast Scan FMCW for close-in threat detection and Doppler for long-range coverage across rough terrain. This flexibility allows operators to optimize the radar’s performance for site layout and surveillance needs.

Wide-Area Coverage with Low False Alarm Rate

The R3D covers up to 133 km² and tracks up to 128 targets in real time with exceptionally low false alarm rates—fewer than one per 24 hours. This reliability ensures operators maintain trust in the system’s alerts across long shifts and complex environments.

Efficient Target Telemetry and Integration

Target output includes full positional and movement data—range, bearing, lat/long, heading, and speed. With ICD-0100 XML protocol support and multi-radar networking, R3D integrates easily into FLIR’s VMS and command platforms or third-party systems.

Rugged, Lightweight, and Deployment-Ready

Weighing only 29 lbs and drawing 40 W, the radar is ideal for stop-and-scan missions or permanent mounting. Rated IP66 and MIL-tested, it withstands wind, dust, humidity, and harsh temperatures for dependable 24/7 deployment.
