Product Information

Ranger® R5D

The FLIR Ranger® R5D is a Ka-band, dual-mode ground surveillance radar built to deliver reliable threat detection in challenging outdoor conditions—especially suited for the Middle East and arid operational environments. Combining FMCW-based Fast Scan mode for high-resolution near-range detection with Doppler mode for extended terrain coverage, the R5D flexibly adapts to both broad situational awareness and specific threat tracking needs.

With 360° continuous scanning and a coverage area up to 346 km², the R5D detects personnel at distances of 5.5 km and vehicles or watercraft up to 9.4 km, depending on operating mode. It supports tracking of up to 128 moving targets at once and excels in detecting slow-moving threats such as walking personnel or crawling infiltrators thanks to its <0.1 m/s minimum detection velocity.

The R5D’s compact, ruggedized design enables it to operate continuously in harsh environmental conditions. It supports fast deployment with just one cable and four bolts, requires only 40 W of power, and integrates easily with FLIR EO/IR sensors and command platforms. Whether installed on towers, checkpoints, or mobile assets, it enhances situational awareness and response readiness for border control, critical infrastructure protection, and expeditionary missions.

Dual-Mode Radar for Flexible Mission Requirements

The Ranger R5D operates in two modes—Fast Scan for close-range, high-resolution detection, and Doppler for long-range threat acquisition over complex terrain. Operators can quickly switch modes to match terrain and detection priorities.

High-Precision Surveillance with Minimal False Alarms

With a low false alarm rate (<1 per 24 hours) and tracking for up to 128 simultaneous threats, the R5D offers trustworthy performance 24/7. It delivers full telemetry per target, including range, bearing, lat/long, heading, speed, and time.

Designed for Harsh Climates and Long-Term Use

Engineered for hot, dry, and windy deployments, the R5D is IP65-rated, withstands 140 km/h winds, and operates from -30°C to +65°C. It’s ideal for permanent or mobile security around borders, ports, military bases, or industrial zones.

Easy to Deploy and Integrate

Weighing just 37 lbs, the R5D is mountable on fixed or mobile platforms with minimal setup. It supports Ethernet, wireless, and fiber communication, and integrates with FLIR C2 systems or third-party VMS using XML protocol.
